our leadership model
We are Elder protected and staff driven: Yarrow Alliance is led in a Presbyterian-styled governance model where the church is Elder-protected and staff-driven.
This means that the day-to-day operational leadership of the church (including its vision, ministry priorities, programs, staffing and culture) is the responsibility of the Lead Pastor and their paid staff, as well as the various ministry departments that our staff oversee.
At the same time, our Lead Pastor and team are supported and held accountable (spiritually, relationally, financially legally, etc.) by a local church member-elected volunteer Board of Elders whose purpose is to provide the oversight function of church governance.
We are egalitarian: This means that we believe and practice the biblical model of male and females as co-equals in all aspects of church leadership and ministry. As a local church of The Alliance Canada, Yarrow Alliance is pleased to serve as a fully egalitarian community of faith where we understand that there is equality between genders, and we celebrate that all people are made in the image of God and are equal in dignity, value, and worth (Genesis 1:27; Galatians 3:26-28). Practically speaking, at Yarrow Alliance, all roles in the church are available, accessible, and assigned based on gifts, calling and the affirmation of those within the faith community, regardless of gender.
We are a part of The Alliance Canada:
As a local community of faith, Yarrow Alliance Church is a part of a broader family of churches: The Alliance Canada. You can find The Alliance statement of faith here and more information about The Alliance Canada here.
our mission
As a faith community, it’s our mission to be driven by love. (2 Corinthians 5:14)
Our Vision
As we look to Jesus for a model of ministry and the priorities that we believe need to shape our community at Yarrow Alliance, we observe that Jesus prioritized three things. In the way that Jesus lived and modelled his life, we see a pattern of Jesus working in the midst of larger gatherings with crowds, deepening spiritual formation in smaller relational gatherings, and practicing and extending compassion and justice for all.
At Yarrow Alliance, we prioritize ministry around the Ways of Jesus:
1. The Gathering : YAC exists to glorify God and together, experience a deeper sense of His presence. - Acts 2: 42-46
2. Love One Another: YAC exists for spiritual growth and maturity through relational small gatherings. - John 13: 34-35
3. Compassion and Justice: YAC exists to extend the message and compassion of Christ to all people. - Matthew 25: 34-36
